Gratitude Is Good For You
Gratitude is… being grateful. It’s the opposite of entitlement. It’s unattached. It’s humility.
Gratitude is unexpected. It can come in any situation.
Gratitude is saying, “This thing or situation is teaching me to become more me.”
Whether I asked for it or not, I can be grateful.
Dictionary definitions say that gratitude is an expression of appreciation usually in return for kindness.
But gratitude doesn’t have to be in return for kindness, it can be in return for anything.
I Can Let Go
Let go. When people ask me what I do, I have a variety of 30 second to 1 minute speeches, but the bottom line is that I help people to let go. Forgiveness is ultimately letting go, and reclaiming yourself, truth, power, being, whatever it is that you want to finally claim. Your hands were full of past issues, struggles, emotions, patterns, relationships, and now you are ready to embrace the present.
I Can Tell the Truth
Tell The Truth. People do not seem to realize what telling the truth entails, and they don’t always realize when they are not fully telling the truth. I hear, “Oh, my parents were great, so happy. Never fighting. Never angry. Never bitter.” What? Really? I don’t know one human who can honestly avoid every unpleasant emotion, at least, not without some ramification.
I Can Pay Attention
Paying attention is a step beyond just showing up. It is listening to yourself and to others. It’s being observant and discerning in our responses. Someone who is struggling to pay attention struggles to know what is going on when they are showing up. They don’t know why, and they are focusing more on themselves than on the present around them. People challenged with paying attention are reacting, not responding. To pay attention requires patience and trust.
I Can Show Up
A client asked me once, “What do you mean by showing up?” It means to be there. Present. Not floating up in the clouds. It is step one. Showing up is usually an action. It means turning off your phone. Turning off the TV. Putting your preoccupation down. Going to the gym. Going to the doctor. Going to the therapist. Reaching out to a friend. Writing that letter you’ve been putting off.
Blocks To Healing: Show Up. Pay Attention. Tell The Truth. Let Go.
If someone is struggling with showing up, paying attention, telling the truth, or letting go with regard to their issue, it blocks the healing. EPT helps remove the blocks so that a person can show up, pay attention, tell the truth and let go in a compassionate and healthy way. You will heal and recover faster when you do the above 4 things.
