Whether You Believe Or Not EPT Works. Just Show Up.

When I was in college, I had a professor that loathed EMDR. He would go on rants about how “It’s not evidence based! It doesn’t work! It’s all placebo!” And if you know anything about EMDR right now, IT IS an evidence based therapy.

Trauma therapists are often trained in it. And even though it’s considered evidence based, some therapists will say that it’s not the best approach for trauma. 

EMDR had a good marketing team, money, and just enough evidence to skirt by. I have no doubt that it helps many many people. 

There’s a meta analysis of many types of therapy and how they help people. With all other factors accounted for, the analysis found that the main factors affecting if therapy worked, or not, was based on the client and clinician’s belief that it will work. 

If both believe in it, then the more successful therapy will be.

Newsflash: EPT is not an officially evidence based peer reviewed FDA approved blah blah blah technique. Maybe it will be some day.

I Forgive Myself For Believing…

  • Nothing can help me.

  • I can only help myself.

  • Everything is BS.

  • There’s no point.

  • This is/I am a waste of time.

  • If it’s not somehow “approved by science” then it can’t work.

  • Science can explain everything.

  • It’s too hard to do all the work.

I Forgive Others For…

  • Not believing in me. 

  • Not believing me.

  • For being loyal to one way of healing or suffering.

  • For not believing when I was healed.

I Give Others Permission To Forgive Me When I Don’t Believe Them.

I Love And Accept Myself Even When I’m Afraid To Try And It Still Doesn’t Work. 

Without this pattern, I am free to try and fail. To believe I’m worth the effort (evidence based or not).
