Why You Have Anxiety

Obviously, I can’t tell you the exact reason why you have anxiety from this blog post. But there are reasons why what’s going on in your mind and body manifest as anxiety (maybe listed below!), and I am here to help you get rid of it.

Anxiety can be triggered by multiple things and is best characterized by feelings of worry, tension, fear, or at its worst: panic attacks. While incredibly common, what causes anxiety and associated anxiety disorders can be quite complicated. It’s clear that anxiety is caused by and made worse due to triggers, or events, emotions, experiences, etc.

Let’s take a look at some common reasons that you might have anxiety, and what you can do to help alleviate it!

Fight or Flight Response

Anxiety manifests in different ways such as when you experience racing thoughts, inability to make decisions, insomnia, constant worrying, restlessness, avoiding social salutations, irritability, racing heart, etc. When you feel these outward symptoms, the same thing is going on in your body, better known as “fight or flight.”  This means that your body is either ready to run away from the danger or problem at hand or fight. Since you are in reality and not running or fighting from a real threat, you are full of hormones and chemicals from this response, which causes the symptoms above!

Usually this response is a hang up from a past event or emotion where you may have literally been in a “fight or flight” scenario—angry unpredictable parents or relatives, abuse, car accident, bullying, death, illness, or even a genuine animal attack!

The reason your mind is racing or you are constantly worrying is because get this… your body is your mind! I often have to remind people that their brain is a part of their body. Your brain got stuck feeling like it was in survival mode, and you survived, so best stay there to be safe, right? No, we usually want peace and the ability to manage this stress response.

Anxiety is Tricky

While there are many exercises that you can do to help lessen or eliminate these fight or flight hormones in your body, getting to the root of why you are anxious will ultimately end your anxiety!

Holding onto past traumas and beliefs in the recesses of your mind is a surefire way to manifest anxiety and make a mess of your inner peace and serenity.

Common anxiety triggers include:

  • Chronic health issues & even some medication

  • Debt & financial concerns

  • Parties or social events

  • Public speaking, events, etc.

  • Poor diet: too much caffeine and skipping meals

  • Negative thinking

  • Conflict

  • Stress at work or in relationships

  • Personal triggers such as past trauma

Let Go of Past Trauma & Underlying Beliefs

What can you do to get rid of anxiety? Well, unlocking the grip that anxiety has over you goes a little like this:

  • First, let go that the answer is logical or rational.

  • Accept that the root of your anxiety is going to reveal something about you that you might not want to know.

  • Learn and heal. Your body has answers to tell you. Listen!

It really is that simple! Once you let go of past trauma, preconceived notions or beliefs about yourself and accept yourself for everything that you are, anxiety won’t be able to hold its grip on you!
