What is an ACE Score? What does it mean? Matching Your Physical and Emotional Health

In gathering relevant information with my clients, I will at some point get an ACE score. An ACE score is a score from 1-10 that is based on Adverse Childhood Experiences.

I talked a lot about ACE in my talk on EPT™ and Sexual Heath linked here. Here is a link to learn more about your ACE Score and Resiliency Score.

In EPT™ I use the ACE score as a kind of map to see what we may need to work on. You can't change your adverse childhood experiences, but you can change the way you feel about and respond to them in order to break the cycle in your life and family. From a medical and mental health perspective, the ACE score is pretty scary because the higher your ACE score the higher the likelihood that you will have medical and mental health issues, and therefore, a lower life expectancy. Your resiliency score may mitigate some of this, and some research has shown that mindfulness also helps to mitigate negative ACE outcomes.

EPT™ works to tackle ACEs head on in order to increase self-love, self-compassion, self-forgiveness, honesty and authenticity, as well as decrease entitlement to anger and suffering so you can live free and full of love for yourself and others.

Just because you have a high ACE score doesn’t mean your life is over or that you’re destined for an autoimmune disorder. Correlation does not connote causation, but if you find yourself looking, and see that you have a high ACE score (greater than 5), it's going to take serious work to heal yourself and future generations. Even if you are unwilling to do the emotional work right away, it is important for someone with a high ACE score to take great care of their body with regular exercise, healthy dieting, and regular spiritual practice, prayer, meditation, or mindfulness.

If you find after all that physical work, that your body is still not cooperating, you'll know it's time to tackle the tough emotional stuff from your past. If not for yourself, then for your children and family.

So, what is the ACE score? It's just a number that tells health professionals how much help and resources you may need.

What does it mean? For health professionals, it can seem daunting because you can't change the past to fix the present. But now that you know your ACE, you can start your journey to greater health and happiness by facing these issues head on.

AND if you don't have an ACE, or have a low score, chances are that your physical and emotional issues are still related, but are SUPER manageable and may even be due to an acute trauma easily resolved with EPT™. Having a low ACE score or no ACE score means you’ll see amazing progress with EPT™ in 7 session or less.
