Holistic Therapy For Athletes
Athletes are incredible. Whether you are young or old, it is amazing to watch an athlete do their thing. And if that athlete is not on your team, you may also enjoy watching them fail or perform poorly or maybe even get injured. Either way, if you are an athlete you have experienced some plateau or setback or injury that made your sport tougher, more challenging, or maybe impossible. It is like losing a limb, a job, or a child.
For those of you who have experienced some loss in your athletic ability, or an accident or injury that has set you back, it is super important to take care of your mind and emotions as much as your body.
When something happens that sets an athlete back in their performance, they can lose confidence, have lower self-esteem. Then that can lead to anxiety, depression. And Research shows that these things lower athletic performance.
To be in your peak physical performance, you also need to be in your peak mental, emotional, and spiritual performance. Taking care of your whole self will get you back to doing what you love and loving your life and relationships faster! Here are some ways for athletes to take care of their emotional health.
Take it slow. Rest.
This is probably not what you want to hear, but when life sets you back, rest is important. It’s usually a sign that rest is needed. The better rest, relaxation, reprioritization, the faster you can get back to doing what you love.
Reprioritize.
What is most important to you? Are you living your life in a way that reflects what is important? If family is most important, are you spending enough time with them? If health is most important, what are you doing to care for your body? If God is most important, how are you cultivating your spiritual life?
A lot of times we say and do different things with regards to our priorities. Take a look at how you have been spending your time, and spend more time with the people that make you the happiest. So when you finally are able to work again, you know you still have them to cheer you on!
Keep taking care of your body.
Your body might not be able to do what you love at its peak right now, but you can still take extra good care of it. Being hurt is not an excuse to let everything else go. Try yoga. Eat healthier. That way when you practice, you know you have done your body good through this transition.

Keep practicing.
Obviously. If you can. So many of us give up on our bodies as soon as their is some kind of setback. It is so easy to just quit sometimes. Even if you cannot practice the athletics or sport that you love, keep using your body. As the saying goes, “Use it or lose it.”
A great way to get back to practicing is by going to see my colleague Maurice Harden at Dynamic Fitness and Rehabilitation. His Muscle Activation Technique takes you beyond physical therapy so you can finally be where you want to be. Check him out!
It’s Not Your Fault--Be Gracious With Yourself
Life can be really random and unforgiving sometimes. Do not go down the road of self blame and what if’s. You can get through this. You will get through this. You (and others) have gotten through before.
Get A Confidence Boost
Find ways to boost your confidence. Being with family, friends. Playing games. Winning. Goofing off. Taking a vacation. Do a job well.
Take pride in what you have accomplished and how far you have come. You will do it again. It just might look different.
If you are physically back in shape, and uninjured, but still struggling to perform, then it is probably a mental/emotional block.
Ask for help
Sometimes an athlete’s entire self definition is in their sport. It can feel lonely, isolating, and unfair when it is taken away or slips away. But there is hope! There are new ways to grow and heal and know yourself and Emotional Polarity Technique™ is an incredible holistic therapy that can help athletes recover physically and emotionally. Schedule a free 30 minute consult to see how you can get back to doing what you love and loving what you do with the people you love.
